History of Carolina Packers:
Originally founded in the 1940's as a meeting place for local farmers
to sell their livestock, Carolina Packers has enjoyed over 60 years of
serving the ever growing area around
Smithfield. It's founder J. A. Jones Sr. (pictured left) was
recruited from Savannah, Georgia to open the facility in 1939. The Carolina
Packers facility is located on 5 acres on the eastern side of Bright Leaf Blvd.
(Highway 301 North) just south of Smithfield downtown.
A commitment to excellence and quality has distinguished the company's products. While the company's commitment to the community set it apart to local residents.
Employing as many as 130 people in the labor intensive past, the new state of the art processing plant employs 75 people. The current general manager is John A. Jones jr., the son of the founder. He has continued his father's innovative approach to meat processing, and the company's commitment to offering quality products.
